The Riverfront approach

Known by their teachers.
Free to be curious.

Mixed-age classrooms support attachment and relationship development, while teachers partner with families to guide each child’s individual growth.

Every classroom has at least one teacher with a degree in Early Childhood Education, and 67% of staff hold a bachelor’s degree or higher. Curriculum is grounded in Connecticut’s Early Learning and Development Standards with a special emphasis on social-emotional development.

What learning looks like here

A classroom without walls.

01

Taking the indoors out

Flower and vegetable gardens, digging areas, water tables, mud kitchens, a gazebo, and the Peace Garden give children room to observe, explore, and build science and math skills.

02

Literacy everywhere

CT Storytellers Little Listeners, Husky Reads, and a partnership with Bill Memorial Library bring rich language and stories into every classroom.

03

Community around us

Children walk the neighborhood, visit the post office, library, Avery-Copp House, Fort Griswold, and the waterfront, learning through real places and conversations.

04

Individualized support

Regular assessment helps identify possible developmental concerns. Staff partner with families, Birth to Three, public schools, and other specialists when extra support is needed.
